Mid-Year Book Roundup | June 2019

Hello Readers & Friends,

Last year I did a round-up of all my reads for 2018, and as we hit June I thought I would share a mid-year update. I set my GoodReads goal at 59 books this year, slightly higher than last year but I am currently on track having read 29 books this year so far.

A reminder on how I rate:
* Could not read or get around style of writing/ shit storyline, likely DNF
** Really didn't like, could rant about, would not recommend, disappointed
*** Was a fine read, will probably have forgotten about it within 6 months but passed time nicely
**** Really enjoyed, looked forward to reading every day, would recommend
***** Could not put down, thought about for ages after, into the fandom and would re-read

Anddddd my mid-year awards (I can't wait to see if any of these get knocked out by the end of the year!)

Favourite Read: Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo
Best Contemporary: The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
Most Thought-About: Lolita by Vladimir Nobakov
Favourite Series: The Elite by Kiera Cass

Very different books, but interesting! I must admit, this year has been quite disappointing so far with big names and hyped titles letting me down (See: Viper and Cinder). I was also disappointed in Patrick Ness, though I will still give his books another go, and I have also lost interest in The Red Queen series.

Overall I've enjoyed the trashy Elite series the most, had my world changed by the Crooked Kingdom duology, thoroughly enjoyed my Lolita re-read and was really happily surprised by how much I enjoyed The Hate U Give and also One of Us is Lying. Special mention to The Cruel Prince by Holly Black, which was probably my favourite fantasy after Bardugo's works.

How has your year been so far?

Love, C x
